Having come out in 2007, the originalBioShockis now pretty old, but that doesn’t stop it from having quite the legacy. With its twisted meta-narrative, it was more than just a basic FPS, proving that there are still interesting ways of telling stories in video games.
But what if it was remade in say, oh I don’t know, Unreal Engine 5? Well, that’s what one person wondered. As spotted byDSO Gaming, environmental artist Kaleb Nekumanesh (who worked as a designer onHalo Infinite) has rendered some screenshots and videos fromBioShock, reimagined in UE5.

Now, the original game was already pretty gloomy, but these renderings really make the environments pop with a much prettier version of said gloom. We see hints of a Big Daddy in one of them, with each image showing recognizable parts of Rapture with more modern visual acuity. It should be made clear that these images and clips don’t represent an actual remake, as far as I can tell. They’re just a concept.
Would you kindly… make a fourth game?
It’s been 17 years since the first game of the series came out, and 11 years since the last installment. As lauded as 2K’sBioShockis, it remains to be seen what’s happening regarding anything new on the horizon. It’s been said that aBioShock 4has been in development for years, but we haven’t really had any updates for quite some time.
We know very little about what the fourth game’s story will be about, where it’ll be set, what platforms it’ll be available on, and even less on a potential release date. We do know that aBioShockmovie adaptationis in development at Netflix, so we’ll probably be seeing that before a new game.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the rest of Kaleb’s renderings on theirArtStation page, as well as the rest of their work.
