The End of Flame

[Update:Bandai Namco’s marketing team hasmade a postover on Sony’s blog that confirms a few details about the upcoming remaster. For starters, HDR is definitely not going to be a part of this, though 4K is in. The multiplayer component will also use dedicated servers and allow for up to six people to participate at once.

There isn’t any mention of updated assets, but that could also be construed as there not being any at all. As we get closer to release, we’re sure to see some graphical comparison, so we’ll just have to stay tuned for now.]

After thesurprise announcementofDark Souls Remasteredfrom Nintendo’s mini-direct yesterday, a lot of speculation started about what this new version of From Software’s masterpiece would entail.Dark Soulstheorist VaatiVidya had claimed that this new port would be using engine assets fromDark Souls 3and would contain HDR lighting and some PS4 Pro enhancements.

Turns out that information was false. Vaati has already apologized on Twitter, but it looks like there won’t be any brand new assets or even HDR support for this remastered version. That doesn’t mean a change in game engine is out of the question, but this will look pretty similar to the version ofDark Soulswe already know.

So to correct a few things that I posted about yesterday – “Dark Souls Remastered will not include new assets based on the Dark Souls 3 engine or any combat differences. There is no HDR lighting for the PS4 Pro version”

Even with no major changes, I’m still eager to get a definitive version ofDark Souls. While it was fine enough on consoles for the time, that lack of a consistent framerate really hurt. Even the current PC port isn’t the best, so to finally be able to see this game in its intended glory is all I really need.
