Watch out Funky Kong, that goose has a knife!
New year, same old regularly-scheduled game sales on the usual digital storefronts. To kick off 2022, the Nintendo Switch eShop ishosting a New Year Saleuntil 11:59 p.m. Pacific onJanuary 16— it’s your chance to grabShin Megami Tensei V(for $41.99 instead of $59.99) andUntitled Goose Game(for $9.99, aka half price), among others. What a devilish pairing! I had my suspicions about that goose’s neighborhood-pestering nature.
While I’ve got other rapid-fire New Year Sale recommendations to share below, I feel like spotlighting those two games specifically.SMT Vis a beast of a game that’s reaching out to folks in the “long-time-watcher, first-time-player” camp, thanks in part to its timing, its platform (the ol’ Switch boost), and its neatexploration/platforming. It’s nice to have a big boy RPG — except when it isn’t, and your spirit is crushed. But I believe in you!

As forUntitled Goose Game, while I feel like over-the-top hype outweighed reality as is often the case,it’s still a swell game— and not nearly enough people experienced the joy of cooperative goose hijinks. An after-the-fact update added a two-player shared-screen co-op mode to this unique sim puzzle game, and it’s fun to tag-team bully the kid.
Other games to check out while they’re at low prices
I tried to prioritize games that are at newly-low prices with this list, so depending on your tastes and tolerance for digital game prices, you might want to scope out the wider list of deals. As always, aside from theNintendo eShop sale page, the so-good-it-might-as-well-be-officialDeku Dealsis another fantastic resource for price-checking.
Don’t sleep onHuntdown, by the way— it’s your favorite ’80s action flicks insuper-slick run-and-gun shooter form. (That’s a nudge for you just as much as it is for me.)
