Honey, I’m now free! Take a chance on me!

To me,Defiancealways looked like one of those games I’d probably enjoy a lot more if I didn’t have to pay a monthly fee for it. The show didn’t strike me as too great, but I figured I’d give the game a go if it ever went down in price or went free. I guess it’s time to put my money where my mouth is, as Trion Worlds announced yesterday that beginning June,Defiancewill go free-to-play on PC, with the PlayStation 3 version to follow on July 15. Xbox 360 players might have to wait a little longer, as Trion is still discussing details when it comes to that version.

Anyone who picks up a new copy ofDefiance, whether retail or digital, will receive a boatload of goodies, such as 1,000 Arkforge, 4 character slots, 75 Ark Keycodes, 70 inventory slots, and 5 loadouts. They’ll also receive thirty days of Paradise Patron status whenDefianceofficially goes F2P. And don’t worry, current owners — you’ll all be getting these bonuses as well.

Paradise Patrons are given special privileges such as a 10% store discount, a grab-bag of boosts or Arkforge, and special boosts to XP, reputation, and salvage rates that sound pretty useful, but I wouldn’t know for sure because I’ve never played. Woo, stuff!
