Bringing out the artistry in goofy film
This tweet byGlitch Ritualreliably turned up several times a day in myTwitter feedover the holiday weekend and so I must share it.
Watched Street Fighter in black and white. Turns out it’s actually a masterpiece?pic.twitter.com/SRHepX8QkT

It’s a pretty simple trick with VLC player’s settings (not a specifically made black and white version) and it only looks that good because, hey,Street Fighter(1994) isn’t all bad. It’s got Kylie Minogue, after all. But that great composition and lighting, we can definitely give much of that credit to cinematographer William Fraker, who was also the director of photography on classics likeRosemary’s BabyandBullitt.

And because we’re talking movies:Bone Tomahawk, which one of you reminded me of in the comments last week, well, I went and watched it and it is good. A slow burn, traditional style western (in the vein of the Coen’sTrue Grit) with a gruesome twist. It andCop Carare two of my lowkey highlight releases from this year.
