Adds new Rigger class, custom character creation, and much, much more!
“Watch your back. Shoot straight. Conserve ammo. And never, ever cut a deal with a dragon.”
Hoi, Chummers! The eighth Early Access update forShadowrun Onlinejust went live yesterday and it’s a massive one. Major features include the drone-controlling Rigger as a playable class and the eagerly-anticipated ability to create and customize our own Runners. Metatypes available in the current build include Human, Elf, Troll, Orc, and Dwarf.

If you’re unfamiliar withShadowrun Online, that’s really not all that surprising. It doesn’t get near the amount of press coverageHarebrained Schemes’Shadowrungames do, but I don’t think that’s what Cliffhanger Productions is after at this point. Instead of dedicating time and resources to pitching the game to enthusiast websites, it’s been quietly at work in the shadows, building what may turn out to become the definitiveShadowrunvideogame experience.
I’ve been playing the Early Access version of the game for quite a while now and it just keeps getting better and better with each new update. Sure, it’s a little rough around the edges in places. Being a work-in-progress, it’s obviously not yet feature complete — but what the developers have implemented truly shines. Think pen-and-paperShadowruncrossed with functionality and ease of use ofXCOM: Enemy Unknown‘s turn-based system;throw in the ability to play online with your friends, and you have a pretty good idea of what they’ve got going on.

February Update Notes:
After spending many, many years playing the pen-and-paper version of the game, I’ve found that even inEarly Access, Cliffhanger Productions’ multiplayer-enabled, tactics-focused take on the tech fantasy universe is the purestShadowrunvideogame experience on offer today.
