No microtransactions! Hallelujah!
The initial reaction for lot of people have to “iOS port of ___” is to run away screaming. Microtransactions, ads, and Facebook integration. Mobile gaming for the most part is a total mess, but this time, someone’s done it well! And, more shockingly, it’sRollercoaster Tycoon 3.
The game was ported over by original developer Frontier Developments. It includes all eighteen of the scenarios the originalRC3had, touch screen controls, and it has no microtransactions or in-app purchases.It’s a one-time purchase of $4.99 for iOS 7 or later.
What’s even more shocking Is that it’s aRollercoaster Tycoongame that manages to get mobile gaming right.Rollercoaster Tycoon 4came out last year andwas completely slammed due to its horrendous microtransaction system. It’s good to see a developer learning from the history of its IP.
The fact “this game isn’t sold piece-by-piece on mobile and people are happy” even counts as news is sad, but it is worth pointing out when developers of big IPs likeRollercoaster Tycoonmanage to not fuck it up, like they always inevitably do.
