ABaldur’s Gate 3player has reportedly been banned for sharing their Xbox gameplay recording, as the footage automatically uploaded contained nude, in-game character models.

Baldur’s Gate 3hasn’t been out on the Xbox longer than a month, so this could be one of thoseBG3oopsies, but it seems to come down to Xbox’s own Terms of Service. Reddit user Daddy-Vegas claimed that one of his clips, fittingly named “naked camp time fun,” landed him a ban lasting until the end of the year — yes, of the year that has just begun.

In aninterview with DualShockers, Vegas explains that his clips were automatically shared to the Xbox public feed and that the ban occurred just a few seconds after the upload’s completion. This left Vegas very little time to react to his malfeasance.

According to Vegas, he didn’t intend to share the footage, but the console settings upload these by default — you have to change the option yourself if you’ve got recordings that may violate ToS. The Xbox probably should not have that feature on by default or create a mature tag for this content, in case it finds it worthy of a ban.

Naturally, players shouldn’t have to worry about a ban over recordings of completely normal playthroughs of a game they’d acquired legally, but there’s more. It’s the old double standard of gore being fine, but looking at a naked body is a big no-no.

And it gets even stranger

Vegas’ post caused many other Xbox users to complain about similar penalties issued by Xbox, penalties that aren’t even necessarilyBG3or nudity-related. Reddit user lmaoolivia talks about being banned on similar grounds when playingAttack On Titan, a game that doesn’t even feature full-frontal nudity.

Destructoid has reached out to Microsoft and Larian Studios for comment, and will update this story should we hear back.
