The originalBayonetta, the very first game that PlatinumGames developed, launched internationally in January 2010, which means that the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of this classic hack-and-slash series has finally started. And it seems the studio responsible has some things prepared for this special occasion.
PlatinumGames posted a special message on its official website, thanking fans for all the support throughout the past 15 years and stating that the team still feels quite proud of the firstBayonettagame. On top of that,on its official Twitter/X account, the studio added: “We have a few things in store to celebrate this milestone so keep your eyes peeled”, although we don’t currently know if it’s talking about a brand-newBayonettavideo game or some sort of merchandise.

Nevertheless, the most interesting part about PlatinumGames’ new message was its very last paragraph, which says: “Moving forward, we will continue to take on new challenges to create games that surprise and delight our fans. We look forward to your continued support ofBayonettaand PlatinumGames!”, which confirms that it plans to keep making and releasing new games in the near future, partially relieving fans who were worried about the fate of the company in the process.
The last few years have been quite harsh for PlatinumGames: The live service game it developed for Square Enix,Babylon’s Fall, was a critical and commercial failure, one of its founders and the creator of theBayonettaseries,Hideki Kamiya, left the studio due to creative differences back in 2023and recently announced his return to Capcom to develop anOkamisequel, and there have been some recentreports and rumors that several key figures have also left PlatinumGames in the past few months.

Is PlatinumGames going to make a comeback in 2025?
Due to all of this, many fans understandably worry about the fate of the company. Fortunately, however, this new statement gave us a little bit of hope that PlatinumGames knows what it’s doing and that it’s already working on exciting new video games that will help keep the company afloat. The only question is: What exactly are these new games going to be?
With the celebration ofBayonetta’s15th Anniversary, there’s always a possibility that PlatinumGames is planning a potentialBayonetta 4, although only time will tell if the team can follow up on that story after Hideki Kamiya left the company. Another likely possibility is that it will announce and release a collection of theBayonettatrilogy for the Nintendo Switch’s successor sometime this year.

Back in September,PlatinumGames acquired full ownership ofThe Wonderful 101IP from Nintendo, so the studio may also be working on a sequel to that cult classic. It’s also possible that the team picked up and continued the developmentProject G.G., a promising project that Hideki Kamiya left unfinished before his departure. Lastly, PlatinumGames could also create a completely new IP: Don’t let the failure of Babylon’s Fall fool you, because all of its other original franchises, like Astral Chain or MadWorld, are among some of the best and most creative action games in the gaming industry.
