Originally seen as good-natured offerings — granting players a discount on downloadable content — season passes have started to feel“less like good will, and more like outright exploitation.” The season pass is ushering in a new form of transaction where the consumer pays for, often times, unannounced content that has no definite foreshadowing of being worthwhile or not....

Production starting Q1 2015 A few years ago, Lionsgatepicked up the film rightstoDead Islandbut now Deep Silver is moving forward with Occupant Entertainment to “package, produce, and finance” an adaptation. It’s unclear which direction the movie will go in, though Occupant partners Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino said in an announcement that the series’ trailers “provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse....

This is such a fun little book Mega Manis back, baby. Not only did we get a brand newMega Mangame with11that didn’t have the phrases “remake, remaster, re-release, or compilation” in the title, but we also got promises that the franchisewould blossom for years to come. While the next iteration will likely beMega Man 12, Capcom also teased possible new entries for theMega Man Xand.EXEseries. EvenZero/ZXis getting resurrected early next year in anthology form....

Transformers meets card battling DeNA’sTransformers: Legendsis now out for free on Apple’s App Store and the Google Play store. Players can build a team of Autobots or Decepticons as they go through two storylines, or fight with other people in the versus mode. The Transformers design here was inspired by the first generationTransformers, and you’ll be able to collect the various robots in their main robot mode, or vehicle alt mode....

It was over 35 years ago that Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice first terrorized cinemas across the globe. Now all these years later, the Ghost with the Most is back on the big screen. Director Tim Burton’sBeetlejuice Beetlejuiceis nearly here, and even as many grow tired of the seemingly endless stream of legacy sequels that no one asked for, among many in the general audience and, naturally, longtime fans of the 1988 original, anticipation is high for this pre-Halloween spooky theatrical endeavor....

Pendejo! Shadows of the Damnedis a pretty overlooked game from last generation. It may not be Suda51’s best title, but it has a really great story, solid gunplay, and some awesome visuals. It also provided us with an excellent soundtrack bySilent Hillseries mainstay Akira Yamaoka (who has been working with Suda sinceNo More Heroes 2). If you somehow missed out on playing this hidden gem, you don’t need to worry about finding an old Xbox 360 anymore....

Zen Studios continues tobranch outwith the announcement ofCastleStorm, a strategy game looking to release on Xbox Live Arcade and “other digital platforms” this year. The concept of side-scrolling real-time strategy isn’t exactly new, but Zen has a few features that sound compelling. I like the emphasis placed on the physics-based destruction, and that players have the option to create their own custom castle. Beyond competitive multiplayer, there’s also a co-op mode in which you and another player have to defend yourselves against an endless horde of foes....

Wrath of the Lich King is on top EveryWorld of Warcraftplayer, new or old, has a favorite era. First week sales total one month on Steam Elden Pixels, the indie outfit behindAlwa’s Awakening,had cause to celebrate recently, as the Switch port of the cutesy gothic-platformer reportedly sold as many copies on the Nintendo platform in its first week as it had done in its first month on PC. Speaking on Twitter, Elden Pixel’s Mikael Forslind revealed the statistics, noting thatAlwa’s Awakeninghas also sold more copies so far in 2018 than it did in its launch year of 2017....

Worked up about the newDSi? It seems impressions of Nintendo’s new hardware vary widely, but analysts have already begun to assess the impact that the DSi could have on the consumer, and some of them aren’t feeling too positive about it. UBS Investment Research analyst Ben Schachter commented on Nintendo’s proud new announcement: “The new functions to be added to the DSi are no more than minor changes, and as such are unlikely to expand the NDS user base, in our view,” advised Schacther....
