Who ya gonna call? This week’s Arcade Archives release takes us back to the very early days of one of gaming’s most formative genres: the dungeon crawler — Hamster has reached into its big ol’ catalogue of classics and pulled out Namco’sDragon Buster, now available to download on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Originally released in arcades way back in 1984, before finding its way to the Japanese home computer market,Dragon Busteris a side-scrolling fantasy adventure that would carve a path for many followers to come....

San Diego Comic-Con has officially started and it’s already jam packed full of people. I’m truly scared just how crowded this place will be once the weekend hits. Thankfully there’s already plenty of great cosplayers to make the crowds bearable. Today alone we’ve seen a billion Deadpools, some clever twists on Marvel heroes,Dead Rising, Magika, Gears of War, Assassin’s Creed, and so many other different outfits. The Sony PlayStation Portable is a hot little game system, but in one gamer’s case, it got so hot it almost burnt his business! A Warner Middle School student was in band, probably doing band things, while his PSP was stowed away in his pants pocket. Later, around 8:30 am, Farmington Hills firefighters were called to the school, as this seventh grader’s pants caught fire. Embarassing! They treated the unnamed boy’s leg burns at the school, and then he was transfered to a hospital for further treatment....

$400 for PSVR and the PS Camera, $450 for everything With the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive seeing price cuts, it’s now Sony’s turn to sweeten the VR deal. As of September 1 in the US and Canada, the core PlayStation VR bundle ($399 USD / $499 CAD) will include the PlayStation Camera. The peripheral is required, so that’s 40-some extra bucks you won’t need to spend toget started with VR on PlayStation 4....

Many of usSTALKERveterans were on the fence about Stalker 2in the early days, but I’m thrilled to report that I’m now fully on board. Following a rapid-fire onset of patches and updates, GSC Game World has turned me into a believer, and the future is bright. Ahead of the full releasethis March,StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarmhas expanded its beta to include people who pre-purchased a digital copy of the expansion on Battle.net on or before December 18. If that describes you, be sure todownload the clientand start playing. According to Blizzard, those who pre-purchase after that date aren’t completely out of luck — further waves of these players will be given beta access “on an approximately weekly basis....

For the livestream Atlus heard you like countdowns, so they put a countdown in your countdown. Yep, a few days ago we got wind that Atluswas planning somethingforPersona 5. Perhaps it was a date reveal at one point. But oh no, before it went live, some mischievous intern has morphed it intoanother countdown clock, which now confirmsa Nicovideo streamthat will take place on the previously revealed date of May 5 — so at least we know what it’s for....

And it doesn’t involve Luke or Vader! Star Wars Battlefrontisn’t quite whatI hoped it would be, but I keep coming back to it for a chance to see moments of pure, unscripted delight. It usually doesn’t take long. This hilarious encounter captured by YouTube user Nick Nixon is a great example of just how goofy this game can get. The fight could have ended early had either player simply tossed a grenade, but they decided to “have the ultimate showdown like true galactic gentlemen,” as Nick puts it....

Perhaps the wildest trailer in Yakuza history While no one can ever accuse theYakuzafranchise of not having its fair share of off-the-wall moments, (suplexing a bull? underground castle? anybody?), the newest entry in the JRPG franchise,Yakuza: Like a Dragon, looks to dial the chaos up to eleven and yank off the knob. Sega has released a new trailer for the incoming sequel, titled “The Quest Begins,” which sees new hero Ichiban Kasuga and an army of friends, associates, and hangers-on engage in a cavalcade of craziness across the iconic city of Kamurocho....

Unsurprisingly, Britain is full of these arseholes, so UK games willsoon be introducinga “Traffic Light” labeling system to help moronic parents understand videogames without taxing their mental reserves. Now they can save precious brainpower for important stuff, like thinking aboutBig Brother. For the final level in Unpacking, players are tasked with filling up an entire ten-room home. As the unnamed protagonist has seemingly birthed another mouth to feed, this means there are several more boxes to tackle and new items to explore.
