Warren Spector wants unreleased IP from Disney

Use it or lose it Disney announced plans tocease operations as a console game publisherlast week. As a result the company will be discontinuing theInfinityseries and shutting down its Salt Lake City-based development studio, Avalanche Software, which has been in business since 1995. If there’s a silver lining to this dark cloud, it might come from former Disney employee Warren Spector (better known for his hand in creatingDeus Ex), who sees Disney’s move as a potential opportunity to regain the rights to a property he worked on while at the company....

Xbox Games with Gold has five titles lined up for February including Gears 5 and Resident Evil

Not to be totally overshadowed by the Xbox Live Gold price increase I always appreciate theadvanced heads-upMicrosoft gives for the Games with Gold lineups. Whether you’re in the habit of grabbing games on sale or you like to plan out your schedule, it’s just nice to know. Here’s the (pretty good!) list for February 2021: So we’ve got an Xbox Game Studios heavy-hitter (that is worth checking out again if you have an Xbox Series X), a classic remake, a very “360 era” Capcom title, a heartfelt Brazilian metroidvania, and a backward-compatible original Xbox game that was recently put back in the spotlight....

Xbox One game gifting may be coming after all

Major Nelson notes that it’s still in focus Back when the Xbox One was announced and all of that terrible DRM news came out of it, there wasonepretty neat feature — digital game gifting. Essentially, the practice allowed you to buy a game digitally, play it, then “gift it” to a friend on your Xbox Live friend’s list. It’s something not evenSteamallows, and I would have loved to have seen it on a console for the very first time....

5 actors who could have voiced Mario over Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt is fine, just… maybe not as Mario When the news dropped thatChris Pratt was gonna voice Marioin the upcoming animationThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, the reaction was mixed at best. The wave of skepticism only grew with the new trailer and players heard more of Pratt’s work as everyone’s favorite plumber. Now many fans are pondering who else could have taken on the role of Mario, and I’ve taken it upon myself to put together a shortlist of actors who would likely have done a better job in terms of capturing the character’s essence....

Best games that you’ll finish in less than one hour

Video games are the best pastime in the world. I won’t bother sourcing my claim because I know my editor believes me. Games can also, however, take up too much of our time as adult human beings, and that sucks. Luckily, instead of playing fewer games, we can attempt to play games that take less time to beat. I came up with a list of gloriously original titles that won’t take up much of your time nor make much of a dent in your wallet....

Cheerful shooter Lovely Planet lives up to its name

An abstract speedrunning game out now on Steam Lovely Planetis described as “a game of jumping and shooting,” which sounds so much more fitting than “first-person shooter.” You do shoot your gun at cute little things from a first-person perspective, sure, but I don’t want to call something that looks like it exists in the same universe asKatamari Damacyan FPS. That’d feel wrong. It’s probably for the best thatLovely Planethas such a cute art direction, because the game will eventually make you want to break stuff within reach of your computer — that’s what I’ve gathered from watching videos, anyway....

Cho Aniki Zero prepares for insertion into your PSP

Aksys Games is bringing muscular, thong-wearing flying men to your PSP. Great. Kidding. I loveCho Aniki(not in that way), and I still regularly play the Saturn version. This homoerotic spin on the shoot-em-up has gone portable inCho Aniki Zero, and Aksys was secure enough in its manliness to bring it Stateside. If you’re new to the Cho Aniki world, you might appreciate Aksys’ story description: Since the death of Balzac, the Builder Planet has celebrated a long period of peace....

Cobra Club made me think intelligently about dick security

Free game about lots of cocks If you’re into weird video games about sexuality that carry some form of social critique within them, you have probably come across the work of indie developer Robert Yang. Creator of such games asSucculent(where you suck a phallic object while travelling through dimensions) andStick Shift(about jerking off a gay car), Yang is the master of making games that while odd and sexual, carry an interesting and intellectual message....
