The further away from planet Earth a sci-fi story takes place, the more sci-fi it feels for many. Though there are many great sci-fi tales taking place right here on our already pretty dystopian planet, it’s hard to beat the allure of the final frontier. But the best space exploration novels don’t just take readers on a journey to the remote planets on the edge of the galaxy. They also showcase fascinating philosophical dilemmas that make us examine humanity and its future in a different light....

Fighting against unauthorized uploads Sadly, folks have been abusing the mod system that Bethesda has set in place forFallout 4, and have been re-uploading creations from Nexus Mods and other similar sites from other parties. Bethesda has vowed to put a stop to this practice, and is working hard to create a multi-pronged solution, which includes authenticating Bethesda.net accounts (required for uploading) with Steam. It’s a noble effort, and I hope it pans out, as the ability to use free mods on consoles (a feature coming to theSkyrim Remaster) is killer....

What do we take away from all of this? Blizzard has recently made a small adjustment to the new map “Junkertown” in their hugely-popular multiplayer shooterOverwatch. The map, situated in the explosive Junkrat’s native Australia, previously featured a neon-sign above a grotty looking restaurant that was emblazoned with the shockingly inappropriate words “Take Out”. As woke people will know, Australia, (as here in the U.K.) actually refer to the process of collecting pre-cooked food intended for home consumption as “TakeAway“....

Switch Soldiers Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has said that Microsoft is looking to bring theCall of Dutyfranchise back to Nintendo platforms, should the industry giant’s pending purchase of publisher Activision Blizzard find approval. Destiny 2’sSalvation’s Edge race is over, and as the dust of Contest Mode clears, players can get into the Raid without a massive power disadvantage. “Storyteller for hire” Destiny’sstory creative lead is leaving Bungie. After 13 years with the studio, CJ Cowan announced onTwitterthat he had “decided to part ways with Bungie” but did not clarify why he was leaving, or where he was headed. Cowanstarted offat Bungie as a cinematic designer forHalo 2, then moved on to become director of cinematics forHalo 3, ODST,andHalo Reach. Most recently, he was story creative lead onDestiny, a role he’s held since just November 2015....
