Xbox Live Gold no longer needed One of Microsoft’s pillars of next-gen is unifying the past two decades of Xbox. This morning, Microsoft detailed exactly howXbox Series S/X make backward compatibility better. An underlooked part of that plan is the way it’s dropping barriers for accessing games you’ve already played. Two generations ago, Microsoft tied cloud saves behind maintaining an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. That requirement is going away. Moving forward, everyone will be able to access their Xbox 360 cloud saves without a premium subscription....

STOP TALKING! Like the Amy’s Baking Company episode ofKitchen Nightmares, the Xbox One saga just keeps getting worse because no one at Microsoft seems to know when to shut up. Echoing Sony’s claim around PS3’s launch that controller rumble was “last-gen,” Microsoft head of interactive entertainment business, Don Mattrick, toldThe Wall Street Journal, “If you’re backwards compatible, you’re really backwards.” This of course is a reference to Xbox One’sinabilityto play Xbox 360 software, a feature which Mattrick insists only 5% of consumers would make use of anyway....

It’s getting there In case you weren’t aware, a team over at Mojang started work on thePocket Editionof the game, which sought to move the series out of the Java world and into C++. The project started in 2011, and it still hasn’t caught up with the standard PC edition. This includes the Windows 10 version ofPocket, which is currently also on PC. Confusing, right? Well, they’re aiming to make it less so over time....

Monster Hunter Wildsis all set to receive the first Title Update in April, and we have the information about what to expect. Buy this game already The previously-announced Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions ofRayman Legendshave been dated for May 23, 2025. Ubisoft has also given specifics about what’s new. For Xbox, there’s the Splinter Ray, Ray Vaas, and Globox Vaas costumes, plus 10 exclusive challenges to unlock “time-limited Achievements.” For PS4, the TouchPad can be used to scratch those darned Lucky Tickets, and the new costume is Assassin Ray. More importantly, load times have been reduced....

Capcom is back with another VR mode, and this time it’s forResident Evil 4 Remake. That was enough for me todust off my PS VR2to see whether I’d be treated to an experience as good asResident Evil Village’s phenomenal VR mode. As is the case withResident Evil Village, the VR mode is only available for the main story ofRE4 Remake, but this time around you have trophies! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time playingRE 4virtually so far, and while I’ve yet to complete the lengthy campaign, there are so many epic encounters I’m looking forward to tackling in VR....

Don’t fear the reaper A lot of you probably know aboutRisk of Rain, which is wonderful. It’s a gem of an action-platformer roguelike and we’regetting another one. How aboutDeadbolt? Hopoo Games’ tricky grim reaper stealth title didn’t resonate the same way, but it’s also good! And it’s getting a revival of sorts. Code Mystics is portingDeadboltto PlayStation 4 and Vita (with cross-buy) on February 20. It’s a tough game on PC as is and I have to imagine it’ll be even tougher without mouse aiming, but if you’re up for cracking some tense puzzle-like stealth scenarios, it’s most definitely worth a look....
