Pinball FX will be the first to support the new feature
Speaking at a GDC presentation today, Xbox boss Phil Spencer just announced plans to support cross-buy and other cross-platform functionality between Xbox One and Windows 10 devices.
Sony popularized cross-buy support on PlayStation systems in 2012, allowing customers to purchase select games on one console and download the game again on another device without a second purchase. The company has also introduced cross-save and cross-play functionality, letting users to transfer save games and interact across platforms in various other ways.
Nintendo began experimenting with cross-buy support last year, beginning withSquids Odyssey. Two more cross-buy titles (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tripping Starsand Roll7’sOlliOlli) are slated to debut on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop tomorrow. Hopefully more games follow suit.
It’s fantastic to see all three major console manufacturers finally embracing this trend.
