Sounds like the sequel might lean into the darker side of Spidey

Insomniac Games recently confirmed it’sworking onMarvel’s Spider-Man 2at the recent PlayStation Showcase. And according to a new interview with a Marvel VP, it could go some places.

Marvel vice president of creative Bill Rosemann recently appeared on theThis Week In Marvelpodcast (as spotted byEurogamer) to talk about Insomniac’s newly announced projects.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be darker

“If the firstSpider-Mangame wasStar Wars,Spider-Man 2is kind of ourEmpire,” said Rosemann.

Rosemann also talked a little on the topic of Insomniac’s newly announcedWolverinegame, though not revealing very much. He did say there are some details and “Easter eggs” to find, though.

With Venom making an appearance in theSpider-Man 2trailer, and Kraven the Hunter theorized as the narrator, it’s not a surprise this story might get a bit darker. That said, it’s not likeMarvel’s Spider-Manor theMiles Moralesspin-off were all that lighthearted, either.

Still, with symbiote in play, it will be intriguing to see where Insomniac goes with its version of the creepy, crawly Venom. Picking up Tony Todd, well-known from theCandymanmovies, is certainly a step in the right direction.

Marvel in general keeps moving stronger into video games, as both these Marvel games are joined by October’sGuardians of the Galaxyand next year’sMidnight Sunsin fleshing out the Marvel video game universe. WithMarvel’s Avengersheading to Game Pass soon too, it seems like there’s going to be a lot of Marvel to go around in games over the next few years.
