“If you’re going to do this, and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right,” he said.

The actor further explained, “I remember they tried to bring me over[seas] for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’ like get out of here!”

Renner said he yelled at the director, telling him, “Dude, you’re not going to do this to me like that; you’re not going to do me wrong.”

The actor also revealed that he had left the franchise because he wanted to focus on his responsibilities as a father, and it was hard to spend time with the family since the filming took place overseas.

While this sounds like Renner is not going to make a return to the franchise, all hope is not lost. He said during the podcast that he is open to returning as William Brandt. However, it is clear that the role must have significance for Renner to consider it.
