Fire Emblem goes from its final fantasy to power selling franchise

Thesequel to the 3DS’sFire Emblem: Awakening,Fire Emblem If, comes out June 25 in Japan (next year for us). As we’ve noted, it comes in two different versions with alternate storylines each the size ofAwakening, while a third storyline will be offered later as DLC.

For the upcoming Japan release, there’s also a special edition version that includes both versions of the game and rights to the third portion when it releases.

Between putting Lucina inSmashand unveiling aFire Emblemtrading card gamewith codes to unlock DLC characters inFire Emblem if(Lucina, Marth, Minerva), Nintendo has obviously gotten behind the series full bore. And fans have responded. The special edition ofFire Emblem Ifalready sold out last week, prompting Nintendo to offer Japanese retailersa second shipmentwhich will reportedly be the final one.

I’m still weary and wary of the fragmented and overly complicated release, but it’s nice to seeFire Emblemdoing well. Maybe we’ll get lucky next year with a streamlined package and no trading card game DLC characters.
