Two of the better games on Nintendo’s downloadable service are about to become even more awesome, according to fresh tidbits straight from Nintendo Power.
Cave Storyis getting yet another re-release (how many does that make now?), and it will seemingly replace the DSiWare version currently available. This revamp will include pretty much every feature introduced in the various versions thus far, such as Boss Rush and Curly Story from the WiiWare port, the Wind Fortress bonus level from Steam’sCave Story+, and more. It will also have widescreen and stereoscopic 3D support, effectively making the goofy, polygonalCave Story 3Dirrelevant.

Next up is aMighty Switch Forceupdate that will improve the game’s 3D effect, insert a “retry” option into the pause menu, and add five brand new levels. Coincidentally, lackluster 3D, lack of quick-retry, and short game length were precisely the things I criticized inmy review. It’s like WayForward is listening to every word I say. If that’s the case, I would like to express how amazing it would be if WayForward made a newBattletoads, hint hint, nudge nudge.
No word yet on when these updates will appear on eShop.
