We’re not far out from the release ofShadow of the Erdtree, the first DLC expansion for 2022’s excellentElden Ring. Today, we got a story trailer detailing just what’s in store, including some pretty significant story for one of the leading players: Miquella.

Called “Miquella the Kind” in thistrailer, the offspring of Radagon and Marika, twin to Malenia, the demigod is a focal point ofShadow of the Erdtree. In today’s trailer, we hear about a seduction, and betrayal; an “affair from which Gold arose, and so too was Shadow born.”

Elden Ring DLC

The ensuing, unseen war highlights the “tyranny of Messmer’s flame,” which seems to coat the royal city of Leyndell. We’re also reminded of Miquella’s sacrifice, giving up his flesh, strength, and “even his fate” for a cause. But as the trailer asserts, “we” are not deterred, implying Miquella’s followers still persist in the Lands Between.

There’s a lot to unpack here. I have no doubt the lore folks will pore over this trailer in the coming days, as it hints towards information on one ofElden Ring‘s still-lingering threads in Miquellaandhints towards history we might not have been directed to, before now. This war that could not be sung sure seems chaotic.
