Dark Messiah of Might and Chivalry?

Chivalry: Medieval Warfarewas absolutely great. Take a load of shouty knights, make them chuck axes and swing swords at each other in a first person melee-fest, and you’ve got yourself a grand ole time. Plus it gets extra points for having a dedicated warcry button.

But sinceChivalry, developer Torn Banner has been incredibly quiet about what it’s working on.Chivalrylaunched for PC back in 2012, and all it’s really done since then are ports and theDeadliest Warriorexpansion, so it had to have been working on something new all this time. At last, we know what it might be.

According to a trademark Torn Banner filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, its next title is likely going to be calledMirage: Arcane Warfare.Gee, I wonder what that couldbe?

Chances areMirageis going to be a more fantasy-focused follow up toChivalry. Torn Banner has already made clear that historical accuracy isn’t a priority for them, what withDeadliest Warriorpitting Spartans against pirates and all, but magic would be a first for the franchise.

My hope is that they take a look atDark Messiah of Might and Magicfor an example on how to make both melee and magic combat fun. I’m incredibly excited to see more of this, seeing as how much I loveChivalry.

But for now we don’t know anything about it other than the title, so it’s anyone’s guess exactly what it could be. Here’s hoping Torn Banner shows off what it’s made soon!
