Nostalgia engaged

Remember the ’90s? Before our eyes ever (accidentally) set upon Disney hentai and before Mickey Mouse got thrown into a bunch oflame platformers? We hadCastle of Illusionand it was enough to get me giddy to visit my grandma, as she owned a SEGA Genesis and I didn’t. Now I can revisit my childhood with aCastle of Illusionremake slated for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC this summer.

Sega studios Australia is developing this “2D/3D” remake, while taking advice from the original’s director.

“We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles,” Sega’s digital brand manager Mai Kawaguchi wrote onPlayStation Blog. “If you have played the original game, you will also see that we have kept intact many of the major iconic elements of the game that helped define this groundbreaking game at the time of its original release.”

The whole 2D/3D thing is confusing. Going by screenshots, I gather that this is a side-scrolling platformer with 3D graphics, except for the level selection area which will be in full 3D. That’s what it looks like, at least. Hopefully, we’ll find out more soon. In the very least, the game looks gorgeous and I’m happy to read that members of the original team are advising.

Even if I can’t look at Mickey Mouse the same way in a post-internet world, I can always appreciate a great platformer likeCastle of Illusion.
