The walking dread
Are you sick of zombies and battle royale in your video games? What if I told you the two were getting combined in a major upcoming release? If you wanted to play a game with the largest combination of industry buzzwords possible,Call of Duty: Black Ops 4looks to fit that bill. Game Informer got a ton of info on Activision’s take on the popular sub-genre and the details are starting to fall into place on how Treyarch hopes to differentiate itself from the pack.
“Blackout” (BlOps 4’sBR mode) will featurean 80-player limitand have the landscape populatedwith zombiesto add a constant threat to the proceedings. To aid incrossing the map, players will have access to ATVs, inflatable rafts and helicopters and the map will feature pieces of popularBlack Opsmaps to explore. In regards to why 80 players was the chosen limit, Treyarch is stating it has more to do with technical reasons than being an arbitrary value.

Treyarch co-studio Head Dan Buntingtold Game Informer,“So we’re starting with 80 players, but we’ve gone higher than that…We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in. So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.”
As for what guns or player configurations will be available (are solo or duos not an optionlike inBattlefield V?), we’ll just have to wait for this weekend’s beta. All things told I do truly believe that stability is the issue with player count since no triple-A game is going to compromise on graphics. It also begs the question if 100 should be an arbitrary limit, though I knowH1Z1allows for 150.
