Preview: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Given the scope ofThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,it’s not surprising to learn that early production kicked off five years ago. It was just after Bethesda Game Studios’ hitThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivionshipped when the developer started kicking around rough concepts and early designs. “We wanted to do something that has a very different vibe thanOblivion‘s,” says Bethesda’s Todd Howard, “where we wanted to stay more rugged.” The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim(PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC)Developer: Bethesda Game StudiosPublisher: Bethesda SoftworksTo be released: July 04, 2025...

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart won’t be on PS4, according to Insomniac

Unlike a few other Sony-published PS5 games Some of the first big PlayStation 5 games we saw this year –Sackboy,Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and evenHorizon Forbidden West– will also beplayable on PlayStation 4. But that should be it, at least as far as Sony-backed titles go. Another big-hitter,Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, will only launch on PS5. It’s easy to point toRift Apart‘s SSD-dependent dimension-hopping design and shrug off the notion that this game could ever possibly get an inferior PS4 version, but ifHorizon Forbidden Westcan make a dual PS4/PS5 release happen (which I’m curious – and anxious – to see play out), then who’s to say?...

Sad and unfulfilled? Star Wars Battlefront will make you feel like a kid again

Escape into that thing you liked once Sometimes while I sit at my white collar job in a gorgeous skyscraper office doing nothing in particular, I, too, feel bored with my life and remember how much I used to likeStar Wars. The newBattlefront(and the new films series) knows its audience, of course. The same 30-40 year-old contingent with spending power that wants real hard to retreat into fluffy, warm nostalgia and just for a bit escape the bitter winter of reality....

Statik is a game about solving your way out of puzzle-box handcuffs

This concept should work really well in VR This short debut trailer forStatik, a PlayStation VR puzzle game from Tarsier Studios, showsjustenough to get its weird, slightly unnerving vibe across and capture my imagination. The setup is that you’re helping a doctor “unravel the complexities of the human mind,” or at least that’s what he claims he’s doing (I have a hard time believing there isn’t something else going on here)....

Street Fighter V’s Ed actually looks really fun

I’m definitely getting him Ed is nearing release (at least in beta form) this month, and Capcom has given us an introduction of sorts to the Balrog/Bison mashup of a fighter. While his weak story involvement andhis aptly coined “Psychic 8-Mile”original look were pretty bad, this video has pretty much sold me. Ed’s V-Skill can be used to block fireballs, initiate a command drag, and his trigger launches a variable speed fireball....

The Doom Eternal team created a nice little tribute to Final Fantasy VII Remake

The Slayer is stoic like Cloud….crossover potential? What doDoom EternalandFinal Fantasy VII Remakehave to do with each other? About as much as both have to do withAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, in that they were vaguely released in the same rough timeframe. That hasn’t stopped numerous talented artists from creating fan mashups however (most notably Isabelle and the Doom Slayer), including this one that could sort of count as an official piece of fan art....

Top Five titles hold firm in this week’s UK Charts

There’s very little to report in this week’s UK Charts, as the Top Five of last week have successfully held firmly onto the current positions within the last seven days, a foothold they are no doubt hoping to maintain through the Holiday season. Rockstar’sRed Dead Redemption 2remains in the number slot, followed up by Activision’sCall of Duty: Black Ops 4and Electronic Arts’ FIFA 19. Microsoft’sForza Horizon 4andMarvel’s Spider-Manround out the mighty five....

TowerFall Ascension out on Steam, PS4 in early March

Bigger and better version June 07, 2025 sounds like a nice release date forTowerFall Ascension, doesn’t it? That’s when PlayStation 4 and Steam players will be able to buy Matt Thorson’s deceptively simple-looking arena deathmatch game. Those of you in Europe awaiting the PS4 version will have a slightly longer wait, “but it shouldn’t be far behind.” Ascensionmost notably has a single-player/cooperative mode in addition to its bread-and-butter Versus Mode. You can also expect a trial mode thatChris describesas being akin toSmash Bros....

Troy Baker KILLS it as the new voice of The Joker

Hear him do the monologue from The Killing Joke Troy Baker is one of the biggest voice actors in gaming these days. He’s been the main voices inSaints Row IV, The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, and will soon play Revolver Ocelot inMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. All big roles, but probably the hardest one to play has to be The Joker from the upcomingBatman: Arkham Origins. Mark Hamill left some very big shoes to fill, but Troy Baker kills it as the new voice of Joker....

World of Warcraft: Legion is getting a companion app today

Control your followers I thinkLegionis the most fun I’ve had inWorld of WarcraftsinceLich King, and it’s just as well as a new app is coming today that allows players to track and order their followers around on both Android and iOS. It’s pretty basic but you can alter your abilities at your Order Hall, and send party members on quests. You also get a new feature once you hit level 110 — the power to browse “World Quests,” a new mechanic inLegionthat makes roaming around the world more fun....
